Richard Pell

Bank: Parr’s Bank

Place of work: Birkenhead branch

Died: 2 August 1916

Richard Pell was born in Wigan, Lancashire, in 1897, the son of Charles Pell, an auctioneer and valuer, and his wife Maria. He worked for Parr's Bank.

During the First World War Pell left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the 26th (Bankers') Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers. He died in France on 2 August 1916, about a week after being severely wounded in action. He was 19 years old.

His obituary in the bank's staff magazine recorded that 'though he had only been at Birkenhead for a short time he had endeared himself to one and all by his open manner and genial disposition.'
