Horace James Ankers Parkinson was baptised in Rugby, Warwickshire, in January 1892, the son of Samuel Parkinson, a bank accountant, and his wife Amy. Parkinson followed in his father's footsteps by going into banking, working for Parr's Bank.

During the First World War Parkinson left his job at the bank's Leicester branch to join the army. By 1917 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Leicestershire Regiment, on active service in France. He died there on 1 July 1917, of wounds received in action. He was 25 years old.
