Henry Sidney Ockenden, also known as Harry, was born in Brixton, Surrey, on 24 May 1894, the son of Harry Ockenden, a bank clerk, and his wife Ada. In February 1913, when he was 18 years old, he followed his father into banking, taking a job with The National Bank.
During the First World War Ockenden left his job at the bank's London Bayswater branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the London Regiment. He was killed in action in Flanders on 3 July 1917. He was 23 years old.
