Allan Ninnis

Bank: London County & Westminster Bank

Place of work: London Lombard Street branch

Died: 2 August 1918

Allan Edmund Ninnis was born on 24 May 1880, the son of Howard Ninnis, an Inland Revenue clerk, and his wife Fanny Elvira. In January 1901 Ninnis went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Ninnis became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

In May 1916 Ninnis left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Lombard Street branch to go on military service, becoming a Private in The Buffs (East Kent Regiment). He died in France on 2 August 1918. He was 38 years old and left a widow, Florence Phoebe, whom he had married in July 1908.

Ninnis's younger brother George worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank, another of our constituent banks, and died in November 1918, while serving in the Army Service Corps.
