Peter Leo McGrane was born in Ireland on 8 April 1889, the son of James Henry McGrane JP and his wife Kathleen.
In November 1908, when he was 19 years old and living in Dublin, McGrane went to work for The National Bank. He worked initially as a probationer at the bank's Enniscorthy branch, and in March 1912 moved to its principal Dublin branch. There he was described as being 'respectable, obliging and attentive to his work'.
During the First World War McGrane joined the army. By 1917 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Irish Regiment, attached to the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He died on the Western Front on 20 May 1917. He was 28 years old.
