George Charles Morison was born in Edinburgh on 27 July 1891, the son of George Morison, a merchant, and his wife Emma Marion. In May 1908, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Edinburgh Haymarket branch. In September 1910 he transferred to Gorgie branch, where he became a clerk in April 1911. Later that year he moved to Edinburgh High Street branch.
Outside work Morison was a territorial soldier, a Private in the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). He was mobilised for active service at the outbreak of war, and first posted overseas the following May. He was killed in action in the Middle East on 2 November 1917. He was 26 years old.
