Charles Lewis

Charles Lewis was born in Bedfordshire in 1860, the son of Thomas and Sarah Lewis. He became a soldier. After leaving the army sometime in the 1890s Lewis went to work for Union of London & Smiths Bank as a porter at its London Princes Street office. Lewis and his wife Elizabeth Anne, whom he married in about 1883, had at least seven children together.

During the First World War Lewis left his job at the bank to rejoin the army, serving as a Lieutenant Quartermaster in the Army Service Corps. He died in Egypt on 14 June 1917. He was 57 years old.
