Arthur Yorke Latreille was born on 8 July 1895, the only child of William Latreille and his wife Jessie. He was educated at Brentwood Grammar School, and was said to be the best sportsman the school had turned out in more than a decade.

Latreille worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank in its London Princes Street office. He was a member of the bank's staff sports club, and represented the bank on its football team.

Early in the First World War Latreille joined the army, initially as a Private and later as a Lance Corporal in the London Regiment. He was shot in both legs on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He died in hospital in England on 9 July 1916, the day after his 21st birthday.
