Bank: National Provincial Bank of England
Place of work: London Marylebone branch
Died: 10 January 1917
George Carmichael Harrison was born on 26 May 1890, the son of an artist. He had an uncle who was a bank manager, working for National Provincial Bank of England at its Cardiff branch, and it was possibly through this family connection that Harrison secured a job with the same bank. He started as an apprentice at the bank's London office in August 1906, when he was 16 years old.
In June 1909, shortly before completing his three-year apprenticeship, Harrison moved to London Marylebone branch. He remained there as a clerk, and by 1914 his manager was recommending him for a promotion: 'shows intelligence and does his work well. His manners and appearance are good and later on he will make a good cashier'.
In June 1915 Harrison joined the army. By 1917 he was a Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery. He died in Belgium on 10 January 1917. He was 26 years old.
