Raymond Goodyear

Bank: London County & Westminster Bank

Place of work: London Woolwich branch

Died: 24 April 1917

Raymond Norman Goodyear was born on 23 April 1895, the son of Arthur Goodyear, a bank worker, and his wife Lizzie Mabel. In June 1912, when he was 17 years old, Goodyear followed in the footsteps of his elder brother Duncan and went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

In July 1915 Goodyear left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Woolwich branch to join the army, initially in the London Regiment. He was later commissioned into the East Surrey Regiment. Second Lieutenant Goodyear was killed in action near Peronne, France, on 24 April 1917, the day after his 22nd birthday. Two months later his brother Duncan was also killed.
