George Wood Galloway was born in Kinross in 1894, the son of William Galloway, a bank worker, and his wife Fanny. In May 1910, when he was 15 years old, Galloway followed his father into banking, becoming an apprentice at The Royal Bank of Scotland's Leven branch.
In October 1914 Galloway left the bank to join the army, and by 1918 he was a Lance Corporal in the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). He was killed in Belgium on 28 September 1918. He was 23 years old.
