Edwin Bosworth Grundy was born in Manchester on 4 July 1891, the son of William Cowley Grundy and his wife Martha Jane. In February 1907 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank at its Blackpool branch.

In September 1914 Grundy left the bank to go on military service and was commissioned into The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Lieutenant Edward Bosworth Grundy died on 19 August 1918 of wounds received in action in France. He was 27 years old.
