Gilbert Kershaw Farnworth was born on 23 August 1881. In August 1902 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank at its Accrington branch. In July 1906 he transferred to Stockport branch.

In March 1916 Farnworth left the bank to join the army, serving as a Private in the Cheshire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 8 May 1917. He was 35 years old and left a widow, Ann.
