Seymour Duprey

Bank: London County & Westminster Bank

Place of work: Rye branch

Died: 8 August 1915

Seymour Gordon Duprey was born in Enfield on 24 June 1888, the son of Seymour and Lina Emily Duprey. He was educated at Doon House School in Westgate on Sea, and at The King's School in Canterbury. In January 1906 he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Duprey became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

In October 1914 Duprey left his job at the bank's Rye branch to join the army, enlisting as a Private in the Inns of Court Officers Training Corps. In November 1914 he was commissioned into the Royal Naval Reserve, joining the crew of HMS Ramsey. On 8 August 1915 the Ramsey was patrolling in the North Sea when she was torpedoed by a German minesweeper. She sank within four minutes, with the loss of 55 lives, including Assistant Paymaster Seymour Gordon Dupree. He was 27 years old.
