Francis Joseph O'Sullivan Dutton was born in Tottenham on 2 August 1890, the son of George Dutton, a commercial traveller, and his wife Annette. In 1906, on his 16th birthday, he went to work for The National Bank.
During the First World War Dutton left his job in the bank's London banking department to join the army, serving as a Rifleman in the London Regiment. He was killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He was 25 years old.
