Henry Nicolson Craigie was born in 1895, the only son of Henry Nicolson Craigie, a law clerk, and his wife May Reid Craigie. In April 1912, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for The Royal Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Edinburgh Morningside branch. He transferred to Edinburgh Hope Street branch in November 1912.
During the First World War Craigie joined the army, serving as a Private in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in Belgium on 4 November 1917. He was 21 years old.
