Ernest George Corrie was born on 11 December 1886. In July 1906, when he was 19 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Corrie became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.
In May 1916 Corrie left his job as a clerk at the bank's London King's Cross branch to join the army, serving as a Private in The Buffs (East Kent Regiment).
Private Corrie was killed in action on 3 May 1917. He was 30 years old and left a widow, Dorothy Grace, whom he had married in May 1914.

I was last Manager of King's Cross Branch and oversaw its closure I am pleased to say we moved Ernest's Memorial to the new home of Tavistock Square Branch. Thank you Ernest for your sacrifice you wont be forgotten.
