Robert Cecil Brockie was born in Edinburgh in 1897, the son of Archibald Brockie, a bank clerk, and his wife Florence Lilian Brockie. In January 1913, when he was 16 years old, Brockie followed his father into banking, starting work as apprentice at Edinburgh Leven Street branch of The Royal Bank of Scotland.
During the First World War Brockie left the bank to go on military service as a Private in the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). He was sent to the Dardanelles in June 1915, and died there on 28 June 1915. He was 18 years old.
