Reginald Arthur Jay Bantick was born on 14 March 1891, the son of Arthur Edward Bantick, a lawyer's clerk, and his wife Nellie. He was educated at the Mercers' School in the City of London.
In August 1909, when Bantick was 18, he went to work for London & Westminster Bank. Later that same month, London & Westminster Bank merged with London & County Bank, and Bantick became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.
Outside work, Bantick was a member of the territorial force, and was commissioned into the London Regiment in 1913. Early in the First World War he left his job as a teller at the bank's London Bayswater branch to go on active service. Lieutenant Bantick was killed at Givenchy, France, on 19 May 1915. He was 24 years old.
