Harold Cellars Brown was born in Lochee, Dundee, in 1894, the son of Robert and Jessie Brown. In May 1910, when he was 15, he went to work for The Royal Bank of Scotland as apprentice at its Lochee branch. In May 1914 he transferred to Dundee Monifieth branch.
During the First World War Brown joined the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in Belgium on 26 November 1917.
