Thomas David MacFarlane Adamson was born in Selkirk on 26 April 1899, the son of WM Adamson, a journalist, and his wife Agnes. In June 1914, when Adamson was 15 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as apprentice at its Selkirk branch.
During the First World War Adamson joined the army, serving as a Private in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). He was killed in action on the Western Front on 1 August 1918. He was 19 years old.
