Frank William Arnold was born in St Peter Port, Guernsey, in 1890, the son of William John Arnold, a bank clerk, and his wife Emma Caroline. He was educated at the Grammar School for Boys in St Peter Port. Like his father, he went into banking, working for Guernsey Banking Co.
In November 1914 Arnold was given permission by the bank to volunteer for the Guernsey militia, and in January 1915 to volunteer for service at the front. He was still on Guernsey in April 1915, and while on the island was expected to help at the bank in any spare time he had.
By 1917 Arnold had left Guernsey, and was on active service in France as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry. He was killed in action there on 30 November 1917. He was 27 years old.
